From speeches on Sudan to teach-ins on the Congo and Kashmir, UNC SJP connected Palestine to a larger conversation of the global fight for anti-imperialism and anti-militarism. Palestine has been a historical symbol of the global resistance and liberation struggle. Many scholars, such as Angela Davis and Howard Zinn, have articulated strong linkages between ongoing domestic state violence and state terror abroad. These scholars have outlined how systems of domination are interconnected through their shared use of racial profiling, military tactics, and surveillance technology. For example, in the United States, there is extensive collaboration between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the IOF. Not only do these two groups train together and adopt similar strategies, but they also share the same ideological goal to “punish those who oppose the imperial and ethnonationalistic tendencies that both ICE and the IDF espouse.”1Anonymous, “Ice and the IDF: The Transnational Nexus of State Control,” Scalawag, August 28, 2025, https://scalawagmagazine.org/2025/08/ice-and-the-idf-the-transnational-nexus-of-state-control/?utm_source=chatgpt.com. This is just one case study among many examples of the global interlocking system of domination, and it speaks to the need to understand how these struggles for freedom are interrelated to one another.

Following the murder of Michael Brown in 2014, Palestinian activists, who were well familiar with state repression tactics, extended solidarity on social media to the people in Ferguson with their support and advice on dealing with tear gas.
In 2023, SJPs across the globe continued the work of international solidarity with the global solidarity encampments. Despite being thousands and tens of thousands of miles away from the ongoing violence in Gaza, SJP chapters articulated how international struggles were interconnected. To fight for the end of racist oppressive systems in the United States, we must also, by extension, fight for the end of occupation in Palestine and all peoples under siege simultaneously. In linking people’s resistance across geography, language, culture, and time, we build a revolutionary transnational solidarity that can point to how we will free ourselves.
